Charity of the week: Compassion International

Compassion International exists as a Christian child advocacy ministry that releases children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enables them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults.

Founded by the Rev. Everett Swanson in 1952, Compassion began providing Korean War orphans with food, shelter, education and health care, as well as Christian training.

Today, Compassion helps more than 1.2 million children in 26 countries.

Charity of the Week: Camp Barnabas…

Camp Barnabas started with the simple dream of a young girl with cancer, it now serves over 1,300 campers each summer around the United States. A place for children who have intellectual or physical challenges and/or chronic illnesses to be shown the love of Christ. A place for children who cannot attend a typical summer camp.  Camp Barnabas is not typical, it is an incredible place where people come to just be kids at camp, a place where they are participants, not observers, in life.

We hope you don’t mind, but since we have people’s attention, we felt it might be good to direct that attention to some worthwhile causes and charities. This week we’d like to highlight CaringBridge. CaringBridge offers a helpful way for people with severe medical needs to easily communicate with friends and family. Among the admins of this page (and site) we’ve had numerous friends use CaringBridge to keep us updated on their condition. From a fellow church member with Leukemia to a family with an adopted child with severe special needs, so the pastor of a church who’s been diagnosed with cancer. CaringBridge charges nothing for their service, and is fully dependant on donations to continue operating.
